Sun Gateway provides excellent service. The advice is easy to understand, and they’re always available to answer questions and help track documents. Anyone planning to retire and return to Thailand but lacking a lump sum can easily and quickly obtain a loan through Sun Gateway. I learned about Sun Gateway through a Thai friend who had successfully obtained a loan there. It’s a great program that helps Thais own homes.
Ms. Narintip Thilajai, 54 years old, Massage Therapist at Four Seasons Hotel
Residing in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada for 15 years.
Q: How has life and work been in Canada?
A: I’ve been in Canada for 15 years. I worked as a massage therapist at the Westin Hotel for 10 years and at the Four Seasons for 7 years. Adjusting to the new environment is very different from Thailand in every aspect – language, culture, and food. When I first arrived, I had to start learning the language from scratch because I didn’t know any of it. But the good thing about Canada is that it’s an open country. There are welfare benefits covering both medical care and free scholarships until graduation from high school.
Q: What is the atmosphere, environment, and cost of living like in Whistler?
A: Whistler is a small ski resort town with not many Thai people. Most people live in Vancouver. The cost of living here is very high. Rent in the town starts at around $3,000 and up. However, there is a government-sponsored Whistler Housing program that charges rent based on income at about 30% per year. The weather is mostly cold, with sunshine for only about 3 months a year (July – September).
Q: What is the purpose of deciding to apply for a home/condo loan in Thailand?
A: I intend to do it for my son. He doesn’t want to live in Canada; he wants to return to the lifestyle in Thailand. He complains that Canada is too cold and it’s difficult to find food, unlike Thailand where it’s easier and more convenient to find food.
Q: How did you find out about and confidently choose Sun Gateway’s services?
A: I found out through a recommendation from a Thai friend I used to work with. My friend knew someone in the northeastern region of Thailand who had moved abroad and had previously used Sun Gateway’s loan application service and was approved. After hearing recommendations and reviews from people I know, I felt confident and decided to contact them and try applying.
Q: What is the purpose of building/buying a house in Thailand?
A: I intend to do it for my son. I want him to start paying off the mortgage while he’s young and doesn’t yet have a family. By receiving money from Canada, where the exchange rate is higher than the Thai baht, he can make extra payments on the house to pay it off faster. Because if he has a family in the future, his financial burdens will increase, and he might struggle to manage his finances. My son understands and has followed my advice very well.
Q: What are your plans for your life and future return to Thailand?
A: I plan to return to Thailand after retirement. I intend to fly back and forth between Thailand and Canada for 6 months at a time because Whistler is a ski resort town, and I can earn a lot during peak season. Currently, I work at three places, so taking long breaks is difficult, but I try to fly back to visit my parents in Thailand every year for about 6 weeks.
Q: What is your impression of Sun Gateway’s service during the application process?
A: I was very impressed. The staff were helpful and easy to understand, especially Ms. Boo (Thipawan), who helped track the documents and updated the status constantly. Even though there were initial difficulties with sending documents across international borders, which took a long time and required a second application, the staff helped coordinate and oversaw the process until it was completed smoothly, conveniently, and quickly.
Q: What advice would you give to Thais working abroad who want to own a home like you?
A: Many Thais overseas send money back to their families, leaving them with insufficient funds to build their own home. But if you have the means and plan to return to Thailand for retirement, I recommend contacting Sun Gateway. Their service is excellent, the process is easy and convenient, and they truly help Thais abroad own a home.
Thank you for trusting SUN GATEWAY’s services, and congratulations on your new condo!
