I have been working as a cook in Hong Kong for about eight years now.
Q: Is life and work in Hong Kong very different from Thailand?
A: Not really; the weather is similar. Housing is a bit smaller, but I’m used to it now and don’t need to make any further adjustments. Since it’s close by, I usually travel back to Thailand almost every year.
Q: What are your plans for this loan?
A: I intend for it to be a home for my parents and a place for me to live when I eventually return. It involves building a house on my own land.
Q: What stage is the construction at, and when is it scheduled to be finished?
A: It’s probably about 60–70% complete. The contract stipulates a six-month build time, and we’re four months in. I expect it to be finished by the end of the year, and I plan to move in around October.
Q: Did you have any concerns about applying for the loan while living abroad?
A: I was worried I wouldn’t get the full loan amount I requested, as I didn’t want to dip into my savings. In the end, however, the approval came through for the full amount, which was very satisfying.
