Think of Thailand, Think Sun Gateway

You can own a home in Thailand even while living abroad—provided you have a stable income and a proper tax record—with staff available to guide you through every step of the process.

Ms. Sairung Praennon is 47 years old and works as a head housekeeper at a hotel in England. She has held this position for over five years, though she has lived in the UK for a total of about seven years, including time spent on a marriage visa.

Q: Did you find it difficult to adjust to life and work in England?
A: Finding a job was a bit challenging due to the language barrier, though I could communicate well enough. I had to learn to do things I’d never done before just to get by. As for the weather—Thailand is hot all year round, but here there are four seasons. It starts getting cool in September and becomes bitterly cold from December to February. However, the summer months of May and June can be just as hot as it is in Thailand.

Q: You don’t get to visit Thailand very often; what made you decide to take out a loan to buy a home there?
A: I usually visit Thailand about once every two years. I hadn’t originally planned to buy a house, but I happened to see an advertisement online stating that Thais living abroad could apply for home loans. I decided to make some inquiries because I was thinking about the future—in case I ever moved back to Thailand, I wanted to at least have a home of my own. I also saw it as a great opportunity given my current age and employment status.

Q: How did you choose the location? What criteria did you use?
A: At first, I had my partner check out the Chonburi area, but the prices were too high since it’s a major economic zone; the cost was beyond my budget, so I put that idea aside. Then we looked at Hua Hin. It’s quiet, a popular tourist destination, and the prices were affordable and fit perfectly within the loan limit approved by the bank. I chose a newly developed housing project because it offers security systems—such as guards and CCTV—to look after the property while I am abroad.

Q: Were you initially worried about applying for a home loan while living overseas?
A: I was worried at first. However, after speaking with the Sun Gateway team, they provided excellent advice. They explained that as long as I have steady employment and complete documentation—such as payslips and tax records—and follow the standard procedures, there is nothing to worry about.

Q: What are your impressions of the service provided by Sun Gateway?
A: The service was excellent. They offered guidance right from the start and were always available for consultation. Whenever I had a question or a concern, I could simply call them; it felt like they were right there with me every step of the way, always finding the answers I needed. I am very pleased and would like to commend their service.

Q: Do you have any message for other Thais living abroad who also wish to own a home in Thailand?
A: If you have a regular job, a stable income, and pay your taxes correctly, this is a fantastic opportunity. Having Sun Gateway act as an intermediary makes the process hassle-free; as long as you follow the steps, it is definitely achievable.

Thank you for trusting Sun Gateway with your service needs, and congratulations on your new home!
