Two of my friends have already secured loans through GHB (Government Housing Bank) at Sun Gateway and have actually bought their houses. Q: How was the initial adjustment period after moving to Australia?
A: Initially, I had to adjust to English as I wasn’t very good at it. The culture wasn’t too different; there are quite a few Thai people here. It’s comfortable living here because the weather is similar to Thailand. Brisbane is close to famous beaches like the Gold Coast, there are amusement parks, and Brisbane will be hosting the Olympics in 6 years.
Q: From your perspective, how does it apply for a home/condo loan in Thailand for someone working abroad? Q: How did you find out about Sun Gateway?
A: I think it’s unlikely you’d get the loan without Sun Gateway. Other banks in Thailand have quite a few barriers for people working abroad. They might not fully calculate your overseas income, or they might not give you a loan at all, regardless of whether you’re a manager or a chef. Some banks don’t even accept applicants from foreign restaurants, or they only lend 50%. Some require a co-borrower in Thailand, which is impossible since we don’t have any relatives working in Thailand.
Q: How did you find out about Sun Gateway?
A: Before this, I’d thought about buying a house many times but thought it would be difficult. Q: Your experience with the loan application…
A: I work abroad and haven’t been back to Thailand since 2019. I never had a Thai bank account during that time. When I contacted Sun Gateway at the beginning of the year, I applied for pre-approval and got it. Once I received pre-approval, I flew back to Thailand to open a Thai account and sign the contract. The process was very quick. I signed the contract on Monday morning, transferred ownership on Thursday, and flew back to Australia. It’s very convenient if you’re not in a hurry to move in. Q: How do you plan to use this house?
A: I bought it for my own residence and for my parents to move in as well. I bought it near the airport because I’m from a different province (Korat), and the 4-5 hour journey back to Thailand by car is tiring. Having a house near the airport makes it easier to relax and I don’t have to pay for hotels.
Q: What are your impressions of the Sun Gateway team’s service?
