Q: What is your current occupation and which city in France do you live in?
A: I work as a head chef at a sushi restaurant in Brest, about 500 kilometers from Paris.
Q: How long have you been working and living in France?
A: I’ve been living there since I got married, a total of 20 years. But I’ve been working at the sushi restaurant for about 5 years.
Q: How different is life in France from life in Thailand? How did you have to adjust?
A: It’s very different. Initially, I had to adjust to the language because it was difficult. People there don’t speak much English; they mostly speak French. In France, they require you to accumulate a certain number of weeks/hours of language lessons. Once you finish and pass the exam, you receive a certificate. It took me two and a half months to study, attending classes every day until I could read and write fluently. Then I used the certificate to apply for a work permit and long-term residency.
Q: What are your plans for this house?
A: I bought it for retirement. Currently, I intend to buy it for my mother to live in and take care of the house, as she lives in another province. I want her to have a place here. It’s a newly built house, and we’re waiting to sign the contract and finalize all the necessary paperwork.
Q: Were you initially worried about whether you could get a loan to buy a house in Thailand while working abroad, and how did you find out about Sun Gateway?
A: Actually, I wasn’t very worried. I had been researching and following their Facebook page for years. I contacted them via LINE to discuss the details, and only last year did I decide to start the loan application process.
Q: Were there any particular concerns you had in the beginning?
A: I wasn’t worried about the company itself, but I was more concerned about the process.
Q: How was Sun Gateway’s service?
A: The service was much better because we initially signed the contract through the embassy since we hadn’t flown back to Thailand yet. However, we encountered a problem with the embassy’s paperwork, and it’s also 500 kilometers from my home. Booking an appointment was difficult; we had to constantly check their website for the schedule. In the end, we had to apply for the loan a second time and fly back to Thailand to sign the documents ourselves, which was much easier and faster.
Q: How was Sun Gateway’s service?
A: The service was excellent. They provided great advice. When we had problems with the documents at the embassy, the staff helped coordinate and find solutions, communicating until we reached a smooth agreement.
Q: How was the approved loan amount?
A: Very satisfactory. Sun Gateway helped us secure a loan for almost the full price of the house. We had a small down payment to cover the difference, so we weren’t too concerned.
Q: Where were you and how did you feel when you received the approval?
A: I was at work! The time zones in Thailand and France are different. When the approval notification came in, I was surprised and very happy. I didn’t think my loan application would actually go through. I’m so happy to finally have a house in Thailand!
